HATFIELD LAKES is a private 1000 acre estate. We have 14 lakes and ponds including the famous Home Lake and the larger Stott Lake. Hatfield Lakes has hundreds of acres of wood ponds, fields and wildlife areas, and PRIVATE FISHING for guests, only. HATFIELD LAKES is a WILDLIFE PROTECTED ESTATE.

The HATFIELD LAKES are located about 16 miles from the Famous Covered Bridges of Madison County. All six remaining bridges are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The bridges are located in Winterset, Iowa, and in surrounding rural areas north, south, west and southeast of Winterset.

The Bridges of Madison county were featured in Robert James Waller's novel " The Bridges of Madison County" and the movie of the same name. Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep played Robert Kincaid and Francesca Johnson in world acclaimed movie.

The Bridges built from 1880 through 1884 were built by Benton Jones and Eli Cox, and named for the resident who lived closest to the bridge. These bridges include The Roseman Covered Bridge, The Holliwell Covered Bridge, the Cedar Covered Bridge, The Cutler-Donahoe Bridge, The Hogback Covered Bridge and the Imes Covered Bridge. The Roseman Bridge, the Holliwell Bridge, and the Cedar Covered Bridge were all featured in the Bridges of Madison County Movie.

Orginally boasting 19 covered bridges, just six remain today. While visiting this area, a trip to see the bridges and enjoy the quaint town of Winterset, with it's gorgeous square and courthouse, charming restaurants, and antiques stores, makes for a wonderful afternoon.
